Earlier muslim
women wore abaya
because it does
not reveal anything
underneath due to
its black colour . It
was originally connected
to islam and
it fulfilled a purpose
of not revealing
anything. The first
abaya were made from one piece ,
both for
the head and the body.It went all
the way to the
floor and it
covered both and
head and the
body.
Often the
Quranic quote , “ oh prophet
tell your wifes
and daughters and
the believing women , to
cover themselves with
a loose garment . They will thus
be recognized and no
harm will come”
( Quran 33.39) is
given as the argument
for wearing abaya.
Abayas come
in various types
of fabrics and
the woman’s comfort level
will be directly related
to what kind
of quality her
abaya is. In addition to the
heinous polyester , abayas actually
come in really thin lightweight fabrics.
Abaya is
known by various
names but serve
the same purpose.Which
is to cover
contemporary models or
usually caftans , cut
from light flowing fabrics
like crepe , georgette , and chiffon. Other know
abaya styles are
front open and
front closed abaya. Styles
differ from region
to region. Some abaya
have different forms
of artwork across
them.
